#CookForMorocco was born out of a need to respond to the 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Morocco on Sept 8th.  300,000 people have been affected by this disaster and 2,900 have died. Homes have been reduced to rubble and survivors are in need of everything to rebuild their lives. We built this community and volunteer-led fundraising initiative designed to support the people impacted by the earthquake through the unifying power of food.

Why Choose Love?

Choose Love is a charity run by a small, lean, and passionate team. They provide project and grant-based support to locally-led, grassroots organisations providing much needed supplies, as well as legal support, rehousing initiatives and longer-term support, capacity building and much more. In an emergency, they work quickly to get funds to where they are most needed and this is exactly what they are doing in Morocco now, working alongside trusted local charity partners.

More on our local charity partners is coming soon.

Who is Behind #CookforMorocco

2 days after the earthquake hit Morocco, Rita Lahlou, a Moroccan tech executive and investor based in London, reached out to long-time friends Serena Guen and Layla Yarjani of the #CookFor_ campaigns to brainstorm the launch of #CookForMorocco.  Rita organized the first #CookForSyria friend's supper club in 2016 and quickly realised it's now time to do the same for #CookForMorocco.  With the partnership of celebrated Moroccan chef Nargisse Benkabou and the generous support of Carousel in London, the team of passionate compatriot foodies including Haya Alfadhel (@chooselove) and Sakina Saidi (@heyimsakina), is looking forward to host the first lunch club on Oct 1st 2023.

The team is growing and looking for volunteers to help host the initiative, please get in touch if you would like to participate.
